Information Systems Tools

Information Systems Tools are essential to tracking progress toward ending preventable newborn deaths. Our package of tools, which support data collection and data management, is meant to give policy-makers, facilities, and clinicians access to facility data to guide informed decision-making for improving small and sick newborn care in their community.

Health Facility Assessment (HFA) Modules for small and sick newborn care

	Facility Infrastructure Survey to assess facility infrastructure and amenities (i.e., communications, transportation)
	Neonatal Unit Infrastructure Survey to assess neonatal unit infrastructure, equipment, and amenities (includes infection prevention and control questions)

Data dictionaries for electronic data collection (REDcap)

Data Dictionaries

We have co-designed the NEST360 Neonatal Inpatient Dataset (NID) to assess the quality of care at an individual level for each newborn, with the purpose of informing quality improvement, measuring impact, and enabling actionable initiatives in neonatal units providing Level 2+CPAP care. This tool is designed to integrate with existing routine data systems, enabling the tracking of outcomes and care pathways, ultimately enhancing the quality of care for small and sick newborns.

Neonatal Inpatient Dataset (NID)

	Overview of NID This document provides detailed information on the purpose, content, development, and implementation process.
	Summary of NID Variable List A high-level overview of the variable in the NID. This dataset can be uploaded to the REDCap Data Dictionary Excel file (see below).
	NID – Detailed Variable List A detailed list of all variables in the NID.
	NID – REDCap Data Dictionary This REDCap data dictionary Excel file can be uploaded to a new REDCap project to enable the collection of small and sick newborn inpatient data.
	Baseline Patient Form for NID This inpatient data collection paper form is a shortened version of the NID to aid retrospective data collection from individual small and sick newborns.
	Final Patient Form for NID This inpatient data collection paper form contains all NID variables to aid detailed prospective data collection from individual small and sick newborns.
	Data Collector Training These trainings are designed to train data collectors on how to input data and evaluate it into actionable items. This feature will be live at the end of Q3 2023. If you have additional questions, please email info@nest360.org
