NEST360 Research Presentation at ISQua 2025 in Brazil
Quality Improvement Approach to Improving Newborn Care
NEST360 team members, Nebiyou Hailemariam, Hannah Mwaniki, and Kylie Dougherty recently attended the 2025 International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua) Conference in São Paulo, Brazil.
During the meeting, the NEST360 team presented research related to NEST360’s quality improvement approaches and their impact on small and sick newborn care. Mr. Hailemariam’s presented the NEST360 quality improvement approach. Ms. Mwaniki’s presentation focused on a Kenyan experience on improving non-hypothermic babies using the NEST360 QI approach. Dr. Dougherty’s presentation focused on integrating structured implementation tools, such as logic models, outcome frameworks, and context mapping into NEST360’s multi-country efforts to accelerate learning and sustain change across hospitals.
The team shared experiences and insights from work in Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Ethiopia, highlighting how locally driven strategies can inform cross-country learning. Throughout the conference, Nebiyou, Hannah, and Kylie connected with global colleagues working within quality improvement, building new partnerships and strengthening collaborations between NEST360 and other newborn organizations.
Reflecting on the experience, the group emphasized how energizing it was to see NEST360’s approach to systems change represented on an international stage and to exchange ideas with peers who share a commitment to improving neonatal outcomes through evidence-based, context-driven solutions.
